Download and read online The Last Lecture in PDF and EPUB A lot of professors give talks titled ‘The Last Lecture’. Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy? When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave, ‘Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams’ wasn’t about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because time is all you have and you may find one day that you have less than you think). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living. In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humour, inspiration, and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.

Download and read online Quicklet on Randy Pausch Jeffrey Zaslow s The Last Lecture in PDF and EPUB ABOUT THE BOOK I’d stumbled upon Randy Pausch, a youngish professor from Carnegie Mellon University, quite by accident in 2011. I’d been looking for a good PowerPoint presentation about time management, and the one he gave was deemed to be really interesting, according to the Google searches I’d done. As I read the mini-bio attached to the file, it occurred to me that I’d heard the name before, so I did some further searching and realized he had written “The Last Lecture”, which I’d heard so much about a few years ago. I immediately headed out and picked up a copy. As I read, I was stunned by the powerful simplicity of his writing. I had already watched “The Last Lecture” on YouTube, as millions had during the time in which the presentation had gone viral, but I was surprised at the profound effect the book had on me. This was a man who, by all accounts, had everything going for him: a great job that he loved, three very young children and a beautiful wife whom he adored. MEET THE AUTHOR Christina St-Jean an Ontario English teacher with a great passion for American literature in particular and the written word in general. Her two daughters, aged 3 and 7, also seem to have a love of books, as her 7 year old just started reading Tom Sawyer herself. Christina follows global events as closely as she can but also enjoys entertainment news. Currently, she is working towards a black belt in karate. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK If anything, The Last Lecture showed to the world just how pervasive media attention is today; after the lecture itself became a YouTube sensation, Pausch made appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Prime Time Live with Diane Sawyer, in addition to appearing on Time’s Top 100 list of the world’s most influential people for 2008. He drew the attention of Katie Couric, The Wall Street Journal’s Jeffrey Zaslow, director J.J. Abrams, and none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. He testified before Congress to encourage more funding to be directed to pancreatic cancer research and received a letter from the original President Bush. Buy a copy to keep reading!

Download and read online The Last Lecture of Jesus in PDF and EPUB What would you say to your friends and family if you knew for a fact that your time on earth was coming to a close? Is there something you would want them to know? Would you want to leave them with a word of encouragement? Is there something you might want to confess to them? Would you want to assure them of your love? When we read the gospels, it becomes clear that Jesus knew the time had come for Him to be crucified. He knew His time with His disciples was coming to a close. They didn't seem to realize it, and even acted dismissively toward Jesus when He tried to explain that His time to leave this earth was quickly approaching. But Jesus used the remaining time He had with them to communicate some additional words of truth and deep insights into His nature and plan for His followers. Much of what Jesus said to His disciples during this period of time is recorded in chapters 13-17 of the Gospel of John. Some refer to this section as Jesus' "Farewell Discourse" because these were His final teaching moments with His disciples before He was crucified. In our context, we might call this His "last lecture." At this point in His ministry, Jesus has been rejected by the majority of the Jewish people and He turns His attention primarily toward His community of believers. He counsels them and explains that He will be arrested, crucified, buried, and then rise from death. They had a hard time accepting this teaching, but everything transpired just as Jesus said it would. We also know that after His resurrection, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people in His resurrected state and then commissioned His disciples before returning to Heaven. What was the substance of what Jesus taught His followers in the days before this all took place? What did He use those moments to communicate? Why did He want His disciples to know this information and why was it passed along to us? In the coming chapters, we'll be examining the counsel Christ has given us in His "last lecture."

Download and read online Memories of Heaven in PDF and EPUB Poet William Wordsworth expressed the idea that we gradually lose our intimate knowledge of heaven as we grow up, observing that “our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting” of our previous existence in Spirit. Dr. Wayne W. Dyer and co-author Dee Garnes had often talked about how the ones who know the most about God are those who have just recently been wrapped in the arms of the Divine: our infants and toddlers. In fact, Dee had an interaction with her own young son that convinced her of his acquaintance with our Source of being. Curious about this phenomenon, Wayne and Dee decided to issue an invitation to parents all over the globe to share their experiences. The overwhelming response they received prompted them to put together this book, which includes the most interesting and illuminating of these stories in which boys and girls speak about their remembrances from the time before they were born. Children share their dialogues with God, talk about long-deceased family members they knew while in the dimension of Spirit, verify past-life recollections, give evidence that they themselves had a hand in picking their own parents and the timing of their sojourn to Earth, and speak eloquently and accurately of a kind of Divine love that exists beyond this physical realm. This fascinating book encourages all of us, not just parents, to take a much more active role in communicating with our planet’s new arrivals . . . and to realize that there is far more to this earthly experience than what we perceive with our five senses.
