Number of pages: 424
Author: Peter Dale Scott
Publisher: Univ of California Press

Download and read online Deep Politics and the Death of JFK in PDF and EPUB Peter Dale Scott's meticulously documented investigation uncovers the secrets surrounding John F. Kennedy's assassination. Offering a wholly new perspective—that JFK's death was not just an isolated case, but rather a symptom of hidden processes—Scott examines the deep politics of early 1960s American international and domestic policies. Scott offers a disturbing analysis of the events surrounding Kennedy's death, and of the "structural defects" within the American government that allowed such a crime to occur and to go unpunished. In nuanced readings of both previously examined and newly available materials, he finds ample reason to doubt the prevailing interpretations of the assassination. He questions the lone assassin theory and the investigations undertaken by the House Committee on Assassinations, and unearths new connections between Oswald, Ruby, and corporate and law enforcement forces. Revisiting the controversy popularized in Oliver Stone's movie JFK, Scott probes the link between Kennedy's assassination and the escalation of the U.S. commitment in Vietnam that followed two days later. He contends that Kennedy's plans to withdraw troops from Vietnam—offensive to a powerful anti-Kennedy military and political coalition—were secretly annulled when Johnson came to power. The split between JFK and his Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the collaboration between Army Intelligence and the Dallas Police in 1963, are two of the several missing pieces Scott adds to the puzzle of who killed Kennedy and why. Scott presses for a new investigation of the Kennedy assassination, not as an external conspiracy but as a power shift within the subterranean world of American politics. Deep Politics and the Death of JFK shatters our notions of one of the central events of the twentieth century.

Deep Calls Unto Deep

Release Date: 2015-01-12
Number of pages: 184
Author: Arjan Plaisier
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers

Download and read online Deep Calls Unto Deep in PDF and EPUB As a pastor and Secretary General of the Protestant Church of the Netherlands, Arjan Plaisier has a good observation point to observe the growing secularism of the Western world, including the widespread disenchantment with the church. Whatever the reason for this malaise, the individual without true religion is really standing on the edge of a spiritual abyss; such a life is one without purpose beyond the day-by-day episodes that constitute an amoral jaunt through the world. Thus, the church is the one institution everyone needs to take seriously. It is the institution that most effectively challenges the idols of our day, provides meaningful community, and urgently addresses the ultimate issues of life. God is the generous and ultimate source of truth, goodness, and beauty. God, in turn, pleads for a response from his creatures. Deep Calls Unto Deep is a book which, laced with creative metaphors, provides much practical wisdom for aligning our present lives with the larger purposes of God's great narrative. The decision to join this high drama, as Plaisier says, can lie as close as our front door.

Deep Resistivity Investigation in Northern New York State

Number of pages: 11

Download and read online Deep Resistivity Investigation in Northern New York State in PDF and EPUB During July, 1963 deep resistivity measurements were made in the Adirondack Region of upper New York state. The survey was to provide supplementary information for deep strata communication studies. Measurements using 2 mile dipole lengths and separations up to 30 miles indicated a resistivity of about 25,000 ohm-meters for the anorthosite mass. Resistivity values increased with dipole separation to about 25,000 ohmmeters. There were no indications of a decrease at depth. A two-layer earth model with upper layer resistivity of 1000 ohm-meters, upper layer depth of 700 feet, and lower layer resistivity of 25,000 ohm-meters appears to be a fairly adequate model of the anorthosite mass.
