Download and read online Management Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Latin America in PDF and EPUB Latin America, a region that is constantly recognized as one of the top economies in the world, is growing at an amazing rate. Although Latin America is doing very good, it is facing a severe problem—the local talent is not receiving the correct attention. Every time I talk to managers of large multinational corporations and professors about the talent and human resources in Latin America, I always seem to find a consensus: most of the local talent is not well trained. According to them, key positions inside mid and largesized companies are rarely occupied by local talent. Corporations fill the hole with foreign talent which is more expensive and difficult to find. This could be Latin America’s Achilles’ heel. I personally understand that developing Leadership, Management skills and Entrepreneurship takes time, and that in some cases, that time will be wasted, but it amuses me how some companies complain about the talent and they don’t take the time to develop it. They rely on employees from other companies to fill the empty spots. Companies in Latin America need to start working proactively and not reactively. Over the last 10 years, economic growth averaged 4.2%, and 70 million people escaped poverty. Macroeconomic stability, open-trade policies and pro-business investment climates have supported and will continue to support strong growth in the years to come. Crucially, economic gains are being broadly shared. Latin America grew by 50 million people between 2003 and 2009, an increase of 50%. For a region long riven by wealth inequality, this is a remarkable achievement. The importance of family and personal relationships also impacts the workplace. For example, it is more common in Latin America to seek employment with family members, hire family members, and look to the family for help in times of need. In addition, many Latin Americans feel more comfortable doing business with people they know personally, and developing that relationship is often considered an essential first step. Americans who try to move things along more quickly and “get to the point” may become frustrated and/or offend Latin Americans. This means that establishing business contacts and closing deals are best done in person, and may take more time than is customary in the U.S.

Download and read online Oprah s Jesus in PDF and EPUB When it comes to religion the most respected voice of the past decade is not a pastor, evangelist, priest or rabbi. She is a warm, articulate woman whose presence dominates daytime television and grocery store checkout stands. Her influence has propelled little known authors into best-selling millionaires and spawned a media empire worth billions. Oprah's name and image are instantly recognized by millions of adoring fans who view her as a long term friend and trusted spiritual mentor. But many have become troubled that Oprah seems less and less tolerant of her childhood faith and has begun celebrating a Jesus very different than the God-Man of her Sunday school lessons. Oprah's Jesus leverages the enormous popularity of Oprah Winfrey to explore the rise of generic spirituality rooted in personal preference versus transcendent beliefs rooted in historic Christian orthodoxy.

Download and read online Beyond the Cubicle in PDF and EPUB How does the insecurity of work affect us? We know what job insecurity does to workers at work, the depressive effect it has on morale, productivity, and pay. We know less about the impact of job insecurity beyond the workplace, upon people's intimate relationships, their community life, their vision of the good self and a good life. This volume of essays explores the broader impacts of job precariousness on different groups in different contexts. From unemployed tech workers in Texas to single mothers in Russia, Japanese heirs to the iconic salaryman to relocating couples in the U.S. Midwest, these richly textured accounts depict the pain, defiance, and joy of charting a new, unscripted life when the scripts have been shredded. Across varied backgrounds and experiences, the new organization of work has its largest impact in three areas: in our emotional cultures, in the interplay of social inequalities like race, class and gender, and in the ascendance of a contemporary radical individualism. In Beyond the Cubicle, job insecurity matters, and it matters for more than how much work can be squeezed out of workers: it shapes their intimate lives, their relationships with others, and their shifting sense of self. Much more than mere numbers and figures, these essays offer a unique and holistic vision of the true impact of job insecurity.

The Leap

Number of pages: 320
Author: Steve Taylor
Publisher: New World Library

Download and read online The Leap in PDF and EPUB What does it mean to be enlightened or spiritually awakened? In The Leap, Steve Taylor shows that this state is much more common than is generally believed. He shows that ordinary people — from all walks of life — can and do regularly “wake up” to a more intense reality, even if they know nothing about spiritual practices and paths. Wakefulness is a more expansive and harmonious state of being that can be cultivated or that can arise accidentally. It may also be a process we are undergoing collectively. Drawing on his years of research as a psychologist and on his own experiences, Taylor provides what is perhaps the clearest psychological study of the state of wakefulness ever published. Above all, he reminds us that it is our most natural state — accessible to us all, anytime, anyplace.

Download and read online Coming Up Short in PDF and EPUB What does it mean to grow up today as working-class young adults? How does the economic and social instability left in the wake of neoliberalism shape their identities, their understandings of the American Dream, and their futures? Coming Up Short illuminates the transition to adulthood for working-class men and women. Moving away from easy labels such as the "Peter Pan generation," Jennifer Silva reveals the far bleaker picture of how the erosion of traditional markers of adulthood-marriage, a steady job, a house of one's own-has changed what it means to grow up as part of the post-industrial working class. Based on one hundred interviews with working-class people in two towns-Lowell, Massachusetts, and Richmond, Virginia-Silva sheds light on their experience of heightened economic insecurity, deepening inequality, and uncertainty about marriage and family. Silva argues that, for these men and women, coming of age means coming to terms with the absence of choice. As possibilities and hope contract, moving into adulthood has been re-defined as a process of personal struggle-an adult is no longer someone with a small home and a reliable car, but someone who has faced and overcome personal demons to reconstruct a transformed self. Indeed, rather than turn to politics to restore the traditional working class, this generation builds meaning and dignity through the struggle to exorcise the demons of familial abuse, mental health problems, addiction, or betrayal in past relationships. This dramatic and largely unnoticed shift reduces becoming an adult to solitary suffering, self-blame, and an endless seeking for signs of progress. This powerfully written book focuses on those who are most vulnerable-young, working-class people, including African-Americans, women, and single parents-and reveals what, in very real terms, the demise of the social safety net means to their fragile hold on the American Dream.
